Items We Recycle
Here is the list of items that are accepted in our bin Douglas but cannot go into the kerbside blue top bins, but are recyclable! We are able to raise cash for local charities and community organisations. If you can help us raise even more we would be grateful – and it keeps it out of landfill which is good for the environment too!

Bathroom products update
From 22nd January we will no longer be able to take shampoo/shower gel and other plastic lids from beauty products, neither roll on deodorants either or pots that have had body cream etc. unless they are the Kate Somerville brand or tubes from Hair Care.
We will still be able to take hand cream tubes – all brands. liquid soap pumps and refil packs, facial wipe packets, old make up, anything from Baylis & Harding and Living Proof Hair Care.
Ellas Kitchen / yoghurt pouches Stops
This waste stream collection has now come to an end as of March 2022.
Cat and Dog Food Plastic Pouches Stops
This waste stream collection has now come to an end. Coop, Tesco and some Sainsbury’s stores are able to take this waste stream amongst their soft plastic collection schemes.
Coffee Pods Stops
As from 12 December 2021 we are no longer able to take Tassimo and Nespresso coffee pods. This recycling scheme has come to an end. Thank you to everyone who support this waste stream over the years!
Optima Brand Water Filters
We now accept Optima Water Filters. Other types of water filters are not accepted.
Bread and Bakery
All brands stretchy bread bags. Any brand of bakery plastic packaging e.g. rolls, naan bread, wraps, crumpets, tea cakes, muffins, waffles, croissants, plastic trays, zipper bags, plastic packs etc and pizza boxes. Warburton wax bread bags. We do not accept any other plastic bags other than bakery items.

TOP TIP – Please use your bread bags to sort all the different waste streams you are collecting, it saves us so much time. So after you use them we recycle them – thank you!

Coffee and Tea
All brands of filter coffee/bean packets & Kenco & Nescafe refill packets – even from cafes & outer packets from Tassimo and the large plastic pouches that Tea Bags come in.
Good Refill Pouch
Good Refill Pouch Recycle your shampoo refill pouches through this programme – Aussie, Head and Shoulders, Herbal Essences and Pantene.

Single use VINYL / LATEX GLOVES
Any Brand. NOT those used for personal care or with harsh chemicals i.e. ones used in motor garages, etc. (Sponsors – Spontex®)

Soap Pumps and refill packs
You can recycle your liquid soap pumps (not Carex) and Bayley’s of Bond Street® hand wash pumps and refill pouches just put the lid back on the pouch. The cleaned plastic bottles go into your blue recycling bin.
Beauty Products
Accepted: Facial wipe packets, old make up (no glass), kate somerville skin care pots, Murad skin care, Paulas choice packaging and hand cream tubes all brands.
Recycle your Baylis & Harding pumps, caps, refill packs and flexible tubes through this programme. The cleaned plastic bottles go into your blue recycling bin.

Toothebrushes and the Plastic Packing and Floss Containers
We can take all oral care products and packaging. Toothbrushes including the Plastic Packaging and Floss Containers. We can also take the heads from electric ones, interdental brushes, flossing harps and the plastic packets new ones come in. The cardboard box needs to go into your blue recycling bin. We can’t take any toothpaste tubes. The large multinational company Colgate-Palmolive pay for this recycling programme. And no actual floss.
Cheese Packaging
Any size/brand of cheese wrapper plus the nets from snack cheese and the wax / nets / cellophane from babybels.
Waste that is NOT accepted:
- Plastic cheese tubs and trays (these can be recycled through local council facilities
- Cardboard cheese boxes and paper wrapping (these can be recycled through local council facilities)
- Aluminium cheese wrapping
- Wooden cheese boxes
- Cheese slice dividers
Flexible Dishwasher Tablet Packing
All brands and sizes of flexible dishwasher tablet packaging and washing up liquid tops. All brands and sizes of flexible laundry washing capsules and pods for dishwashing, cleaning, fragrance flexible packaging, tinted fabric softener bottles and lids and now the cellophane around the dishwasher tablet. Also the plastic boxes that laundry tablets come in. The Sponsors are the multi-national company Reckitt Benckiser® Wrappers from around the bottle of toilet cleaner & lenor Unstoppables.
Food Storage Containers and Reusable Bottles
√ Yes to all brands of rigid plastic food storage containers and lids. Including takeaway containers and lids (washed out). All brands of reusable plastic water bottles and caps & babies bottles.
No To: Glass containers and lids, Glass bottles and caps, Flexible plastic containers and bottles, Teats from babies bottles
Biscuit Wrappers and Cracker Wrappers
Any make of Biscuit Wrapper and Cracker Wrapper any size – i.e. digestive, ginger nuts, custard cream, cream crackers, cheddars, Cracka wheat, rice crackers, snack a jacks, including individual biscuits ie penguins. The outer wrapper including clear cellophane wrappers from BISCUITS and mini rolls. Individual wrappers from crackers.
PLEASE NOTE: no other cellophane can be taken, even it appears to be the same.
Writing Instruments
All Writing Instruments (except wooden pencils and crayons) can be collected, regardless of their brand or material – ballpoint pens, felt tips, mechanical pencils, markers, highlighters and correction fluid containers. Bingo markers.
Please, no pencils, glue sticks or crayons.
Plastic Milk Tops
Plastic Milk Tops (Clear/White, Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Orange tops ONLY). NO TO: Juice / Lemonade / Tonic Water / Coke / Yogurt lids etc, Nothing marked ARLA either. We cannot take lids from alternative milk.
Ferrero Rocher
√ Any Ferrero Rocher and Ferrero Collection aluminium wrappers, transparent plastic box and outer plastic wrappers, gold plastic trays. Ferrero Rocher ice cream plastic packaging.
NOT ACCEPTED: Paper casing and cardboard packaging and chocolate paper packaging (these can be recycled through your local council). Any other brand of chocolate plastic packaging and plastic boxes. Ice cream sticks or any other brand of boxes/packaging
Living Proof
√ Yes to Living proof: bottles and caps, spray bottles and caps, shampoo bottles and caps, conditioner bottles and caps, ONLY,
No To: Hazardous packaging such as nail polish, aerosols, cardboard, wood and bamboo packaging.
Trigger Sprays, Plugin Air Freshners, All Purpose Wipe Packets and Liquid Tops
ALL TRIGGER SPRAYS BUT NOT THE BOTTLE (ie Mr Muscle/bathroom/kitchen/window cleaners) and plastic air fresheners. Any make or size. Plug in air fresheners and the packaging they come in. Plastic tops from any make of air freshener & plastic packaging they come in. All purpose wipe packets, washing up liquid tops, all purpose liquid tops. Fabric softener tops and tumble drier sheets (not the box).
All plastic air fresheners and the packets they come in – ANY MAKE OR SIZE. Fabric softener tops and liquid detergent tops. Any AEROSOL tops and soap pumps, any brand will do.
Hasbro Toys and Games
√ Broken or damaged toys and games – ALL BRANDS ACCEPTED.
No To: Electronic toys and games, Batteries or battery operated toys, Baby and toddler furniture, Bicycles, scooters, skateboards etc. Items in good condition.
Taylors of Harrogate
Any brand and any size of flexible coffee packaging – beans or filter coffee and instant coffee refill packs.
